In South Africa, a staggering 7.5% of the population has a disability, and shockingly, only 1% of this demographic manages to secure employment. This glaring disparity underscores the urgent need for developing nations to prioritize the growth of an informed, skilled, and productive workforce. DEAFinition is firmly committed to addressing this issue by assisting school leavers in finding employment that aligns with their unique interests and skills. Our comprehensive support encompasses providing specialised equipment such as waistcoats with the message “I am Deaf, how can I help you today?” printed on the back, along with personal protective equipment tailored to their specific work environments. Additionally, we offer informative posters containing commonly used workplace signs, enabling hearing staff to learn how to communicate in South African Sign Language.
Post-placement Support
We offer continuous support through visits, workshops to raise awareness about Deaf culture, and online courses and mobile apps containing thousands of South African Sign Language signs. Our aim is to assist Deaf individuals in fitting well into the workplace and to provide employers with the tools for an accessible and inclusive work environment
Soft Skills Training
Our training equips Deaf learners with essential life and workplace skills, improving their employability and personal growth. Unlike those who can hear and learn from daily interactions like listening to the radio or conversations, Deaf individuals face challenges in accessing such information. Soft skills are typically learned from parents, peers, or acquired incidentally.

In South Africa, there are fewer than 20 schools for the Deaf providing Matric. Consequently, Deaf school leavers have varying academic qualifications, influenced by factors like school proximity. These learners, part of a disadvantaged and linguistic minority group, require access to communication and services in their language
