Course information
This course includes eight modules that is adjusted to the audience and managed accordingly.
Some of the course material includes:
- Introduction to SASL and Deaf culture
- Do’s and don’ts when interacting and working with people who are Deaf
- Fingerspelling, numbers and counting
- Basic greetings
- Creating sentences with what we have learned
- Different types of conversations (one-on-one, Group etc)
Outcomes
Upon finishing this course, participants will gain insights into Deaf culture and learn effective ways to interact with Deaf individuals. They will become proficient in identifying South African Sign Language (SASL), fingerspelling the alphabet, and understanding basic SASL signs, enabling them to form simple conversational sentences. Additionally, the course offers customization options to include specific business-related phrases and words. This knowledge will equip them to confidently engage with friends or colleagues, learn about their personal lives, families and homes, offer assistance, provide support and establish good rapport.
